Myth-Busting
Dr. Aaron Carroll and I have written fun books debunking a wide range of common myths and misconceptions about your body and health. Don’t Swallow Your Gum! Myths, Half-Truths, and Outright Lies About Your Body and Health and Don’t Cross Your Eyes… They’ll Get Stuck That Way! And 75 Other Health Myths Debunked cover all the ways that your mother lied to you about your health. Our books answer these questions and many, many more:
Will reading in dim light ruin your eyes?
Does sugar make kids hyper?
Is Vitamin C the cure for the common cold?
Do you really need to drink 8 glasses of water a day?
Do you only use 10% of your brain?
You can finally learn the truth behind all of those things your mother warned you about!
Our third myth-busting book was just published, and this one may be the most popular yet as it covers everyone’s favorite topic. That’s right — it’s all about sex.
Don’t Put THAT in THERE! And 69 Other Sex Myths Debunked has had a fun debut, launching us into official sexpert status. (I made my Playboy debut and Aaron’s fun take on 20 Misconceptions About Sex for Mental Floss has had more than 2.5 million views!)
Our books are published by St.Martin’s Press (Macmillan) and available in many languages that we cannot read. (Czech! Portuguese! Chinese!) Lots of people seem to think these books are very fun. In addition to our recent fun in Playboy and Cosmo magazine, we have had the opportunity to do our myth-busting on Good Morning America, CBS Evening News, Dr. Oz, CNN, and many other delightful shows. Our books have been featured in The New York Times, USA Today, The Los Angeles Times, Newsweek, Glamour, Real Simple, and many other international publications. And we routinely speak about medical myths for all kinds of audiences — myth-busting capes optional.
