January in Brooklyn
I have identified 3 common elements that make up my favorite weekends:
- Friends with whom to talk and laugh and hang out. Ideally a mix of old ones and new ones.
- Excellent food and drink.
- A new place to explore.
I also admit to being a big fan of sunshine, being on the water, dancing, and the opportunity to sleep in, but I think the list gives my 3 essentials.
I just spent a truly delightful weekend in Brooklyn with all three of these happy things. Friends — from Kenya life and from college and several new and fascinating ones to add to the mix. Hours of laughter and talking and wandering around the streets and shops of Brooklyn. And lots and lots of eating and drinking.

Enjoyed a great reunion with my college roommate.

And, to make the weekend even more fun, there was this adorable little peanut to meet and to love — the daughter of two talented pharmacists with whom we have shared a house and life in Kenya for several years. One of the world’s most adorable and well-behaved new babies made the weekend even more full of smiles. Welcome, Amaya!

As if we could add to her cuteness….

Kyla Says,
Sounds like you should make a trip to Chicago. We have friends, food, and places! And Cora would be so delighted to meet the real, true Rachel Vreeman!
